Description

The stables, located within the entrance court of Charleton House, date primarily from the 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The stable block is two stories high and has recently undergone partial unroofing, though the cupola, which incorporates a clock installed in 1921, remains. Early 19th-century gatepiers, originally located elsewhere, have been repositioned and fitted with wrought-iron gates designed by Sir Robert Lorimer in 1909. The property also includes large urns, plus Egyptian and classical sculptures acquired from the estate of the Cavendish-Bentinck family in 1891.
