Description
Bourtree Brae House is a house dating from 1859, with a later addition. It is a single-storey and attic building with three symmetrical bays, plus a wider gabled bay to the east. The house is constructed of coursed whinstone with rusticated long and short dressings. An unfortunate porch now stands in front of the original projecting gabled central bay, which is corbelled at the first floor level.
The ground floor has three tripartite windows, and there are two gabled dormers in the roof. Four sets of paired octagonal flues rise from coped plinths, and the eaves are deep. The roof is covered in slate.
The design is similar to that illustrated in Villa and Cottage Architecture by Blackie in 1878 (Plate XXI).
