Description
Dated 1816, the Waterloo Well is a bell-shaped structure with a rusticated gable and a large ball finial. The well features a carving of a traditional ferry boat within a recessed triangle at the upper part, a spout hole in the middle, and an indentation for a former trough centred below. The sides are tapered and rounded, constructed from random rubble.
The well was reconstructed on the site of an earlier well to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo and is situated at the foot of The Brae. It originally served to water horses and wash coaches, and was a crucial water supply for the village until piped water was introduced from the Ochils in 1883.
The Waterloo Well is part of a group value listing with the nearby Pump and Plaque, which are located directly behind it.
