Description

The East Block with Wicket Fence at Inverkeithing Station was built between 1888 and 1890. This single-storey, rectangular-plan station is partially constructed over Keithing Burn and is supported by H-beams. The building features brick construction with timber framing on the west side, and a base course on the north, west, and south sides.

On the west elevation, which faces the platform, there are six transomed windows, flanked by two late 20th century glazed doors. To the far left, there are two transom lights, and the elevation is topped with a full-length cantilevered awning that has a decorative valance. The south elevation presents a plain gable with a transomed window that supports a canopy to the left. The east (rear) elevation has five windows, including two narrow windows on the right. The roof is pitched and covered with grey slates, featuring overhanging bracketed eaves and exposed chamfered rafters at the gableheads. Timber picket fencing runs along the railway lining the east platform and the northern part of the west platform.

Inside, there are two waiting rooms on the south side that have been combined into a single large waiting room. Circulation around the fireplaces, which are boxed in, occurs at the party wall. The small room to the far left contains faience tiled lavatories and is currently used as a storage facility as of 2003.
