Description
The churchyard of St Leonard's Parish Church in Kinghorn features a collection of 16th century and later grave markers. Many of the early relief-carved stones are significantly eroded, including two stones with winged angel heads. One of these is dated '1721' and bears the initials 'DM CO' along with a plough, while the other is likely from a similar period. There is a simpler stone dated '1733' that reads 'RN IC' and 'HERE LYES ... CORPS OF PAT(RI)CK NICOLL'. Additional tablestones are located to the east and north, and a janker stone is found to the southeast. The churchyard also contains two cast-iron grave markers from the Kirkcaldy Foundry, characterized by urn-finialled fluted pilasters and a fan-detail pediment. Eroded mural monuments can be seen on the Old Kirk wall.
The boundary walls consist of coped rubble and include a tall section that has remains of a mort-safe, possibly. The gatepiers, made of coped square-section ashlar and dating from 1839, support ironwork gates. There is also a low boundary wall with inset railings adjacent to the gatepiers.
