Mains Lodge With Boundary Walls And Gate-Piers, Leslie Mains, Leslie

This is a mid-19th century lodge, altered in 1925 by Gillespie and Scott of St Andrews. It’s a single-story cottage with three bays, featuring a prominent Doric columned porch in the center, topped with a piended roof and a decorative finial. The door and windows in the side bays were blocked in 1994. The lodge is constructed of squared and snecked dressed ashlar stone, with whinstone rubble to the sides and rear. It has ashlar margins, and a stone mullion to the bipartite window in the right-hand bay. The corners have chamfered arrises, and there are prominent quoin strips. No glazing remains. The roof is covered with grey slates, with ashlar skewbacks and mitred skewputts. It has cavetto coped ashlar stacks, a decorative hopper, and exposed eaves to the front.

The boundary walls are made of high whinstone rubble, particularly close to the north gable. The gate piers are flat-pyramidal, coped with ashlar, although their finials are no longer present.
