Lochgreen Hospital & Gatepiers, Slamannan Road, Falkirk

Lochgreen Hospital, located on Slamannan Road in Falkirk, was built by Falkirk Burgh Council as an Infectious Diseases Hospital and Sanatorium. The plans for the building were prepared by A & W Black in September 1881, and construction likely began shortly after. The site was chosen for its distance from the town and its elevated position, providing maximum ventilation and clean air.

The original block is a single-storey structure designed in an H-plan, featuring a symmetrical front with a 3-bay central range that includes office and administration spaces, a porch, and bipartite windows. The outer ranges consist of rectangular-plan wards, each with advanced gables at the front, adorned with stepped hood-moulds over tripartite windows and single-window bays along the long flank walls. The building is constructed from snecked ashlar, topped with slate roofs, and features sash and case windows. The tall lower sashes have horizontal mid-height astragals, while the wider central lights of the tripartites have vertical glazing divides.

The property is enclosed by an iron-railed boundary wall along the street, with ashlar gatepiers that appear to date from the early 20th century.
