Description
The Canal Tunnel on the Union Canal in Falkirk was built by Hugh Baird between 1818 and 1822. It is a rock-cut tunnel that measures 700 yards long, with sections faced in masonry and brickwork. At each end, there is a simple arch set into concave retaining walls made of rough ashlar.
