War Memorial, Stewart Avenue, Bo'Ness

The War Memorial on Stewart Avenue in Bo'ness, designed by Galt and Barr in 1924, is a two-stage obelisk commemorating those who served in World War I, with additional plaques for World War II. It is constructed from large polished Portland stone ashlar blocks. The first stage features a stepped plinth with a vertical panel on the southeast side that is incised with the words 'TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD 1914 1918'. This panel transitions into the second stage, which is topped by a bronze wreath that includes the Bo'ness coat of arms.

On the northeast elevation, there is an inscription listing 'SALONICA / PALESTINE / MESOPOTAMIA / EGYPT / AFRICA', above a bronze panel that honors World War II veterans. The northwest elevation displays another bronze panel with a roll of honour and the inscription 'SALUTE THE MEMORY OF THESE THY SONS WHO FOUGHT & LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR', which also leads into the second stage and is surmounted by a bronze wreath featuring an armorial panel beneath a sword and cross. The southwest elevation includes a similar WWII panel with the words 'FRANCE / BELGIUM / RUSSIA / ITALY / GALLIPOLI'. The second stage is battered and features a carved frieze and a pyramidal cap at the top.
