Description
30 South Street in Bo'Ness is a single-storey terrace of small shops, built in 1934 by John Taylor. The building has a rectangular plan with five bays and features ashlar dividing piers and dressings, along with lined render. The frieze or fascia and eaves cornice rise into a stepped and pedimented blocking course at the center.
The north elevation is symmetrical, with the central bay containing an in-canted two-leaf part-glazed timber door, a three-part fanlight, and a tiled doorstep. This is flanked by fixed display windows that have multi-pane top-lights, all topped with a painted fascia and stylised capitals leading to the blocking course. The blocking course features a relief carved panel that reads 'ANDERSON BEQUEST', topped by a semicircular pediment with a small carved panel. To the left, in the penultimate bay, there is a shop with an in-canted part-glazed timber door and a two-part fanlight to the right, mirrored by a fixed display window with multi-pane top-lights to the left. The outer left bay mirrors the arrangement of the bays on the right.
The east elevation is a blank gabled wall, rendered and lined. The south elevation is asymmetrically fenestrated. The building has fixed display windows and is covered with graded grey slates, with harled stacks and cans located at the rear.
Inside, number 28 retains timber panelling and etched glass in the display window access.
