Description
The Carron Dock and Western Channel Swing Bridge, located in Grangemouth, was opened in 1906 by the Caledonian Railway, with engineering by D A Mathieson and construction by Motherwell Bridge & Engineering Co Ltd. This bridge features a single-span bowed steel Pratt truss design that is hydraulically operated. It has a timber deck with an inset railway track. The trusses are connected at the top by three light lattice girders. Additionally, there is a wooden control tower styled like a railway signal box, which includes extensive glazing and an external stair, along with a lattice-post signal that controls the approach to the bridge.
