Description
The building is an early 19th-century, two-storey, symmetrical three-bay house with later single-storey extensions to the rear. The house is harled with ashlar dressings and quoins. The south elevation, which is the entrance front, features three bays grouped towards the centre. The ground floor openings have chamfered arrises. A decorative fanlight is above the front door, which is flanked by windows. Three windows are visible on the first floor. The north elevation includes a later, broad, lop-sided gabled projection and a lower, piend-roofed extension, formerly offices, adjoined to an earlier cottage. A piend-roofed porch has been added to the west side of the main house. The windows are sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern, although some modern windows are present on the east elevation. The roof is piended, with wallhead stacks. Grey slates cover the roof.
The walled garden contains squared and snecked sandstone walls about 8 feet high, with semi-circular coping, enclosing a rectangular garden with curved east and west walls. There is a wide opening by the house and a pedestrian gateway to the west. The steading, located to the southwest, is not included in this listing, nor is the steading cottage, which is listed separately.
