Description

Rose Cottage is a plain single-storey, five-bay cottage built in the earlier to mid 19th century. Originally asymmetrical, it appears to have had two bays. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, with random rubble at the rear and gable, and features broached and droved dressings.

The front elevation has a door located towards the penultimate left, which is panelled with a glazed upper section containing small panes. To the left of the door is a single bipartite window with a timber mullion, and to the south, there are three additional windows, the outermost of which is a bipartite window with a timber mullion. The penultimate right window was formerly a door. The rear elevation features four asymmetrical bays, with a modern glazed porch extension roughly in the center, flanked by single windows on either side. The northernmost bay is advanced in the roof slope and has bipartite windows with a flat windowhead that breaks the eaves. There is a small timber loft door located in the upper south gable.

The windows are timber sash and case with horns, and they have a single vertical astragal in the upper sash only, which may be replacements. The roof is covered in graded grey Scotch slate, with ashlar skews and ridged stone tiles. There are three asymmetrical stacks made of squared and snecked sandstone, located at the north gable and on the ridge, featuring thackstanes, plain copes, and cans.

The boundary wall is constructed from rubble and is coped with rubble.
