Description

Ferrygate is a farmhouse built in 1794 and substantially rebuilt around 1860. It features a three-bay layout, with alterations made in the 19th century and an extension to the south. The exterior is constructed of red rubble with painted ashlar dressings.

On the north elevation, there is a central piend-roofed porch that includes an arched bipartite window to the north and a door to the east. Flanking the porch are bipartite windows, with additional bipartites located above. To the outer left, there is a recessed single-storey bay with a piend roof.

The south elevation has had its ground openings altered and includes a modern conservatory, along with three regularly spaced first-floor windows. The roof is M-shaped, adjoining a gabled roof to the north.

The east and west elevations feature gables from the earlier house that have been given a pediment form, with painted ashlar skews and a surround to a circular panel at the center, which is echoed in the steading facades. The windows are a mix of glazing patterns, including 12-pane and plate glass in sash and case windows, with some modern lights. The roof is slate, and there are end and wallhead stacks. To the south of the house, there is a rubble-walled garden, with a rounded rubble coping on the boundary wall and painted ashlar polygonal coped gatepiers to the northeast.

The steading, built in 1795, features an east range made of random red rubble. Its gable does not echo the house's gabled form but is instead pedimented with blind circular panels. There is an opening below at ground level, leading to a segmentally arched pend to the south that runs east and west, with tall pedimented facades, ashlar margins, coping, and imposts. The west range has a pedimented gable similar to the east range.
