The Cottage, Greenheads Road, North Berwick

The Cottage on Greenheads Road in North Berwick is a late 19th-century L-plan, two-storey former coach house designed by Kinnear and Peddie. The building features squared, snecked sandstone with red ashlar dressings, harling, and half-timbering, along with chamfered window arrises.

On the south elevation, the east wing has a central fanlit door flanked by windows, which were added during the conversion from a coach house. There are also tripartite windows at ground level. The building has two jettied gables that are harled with applied timber framing, with tripartite windows on the left and right and a single light off-centre. The right gable is interrupted by a lower north wing, which has an advanced gable featuring two deep arched stable windows and a hayloft opening above that has been converted into a doorway with a metal staircase. A forestair has been added to the west side.

The north elevation is part gabled and simply detailed. The windows are sash and case, with small-pane glazing in the upper panels and two panes below, as well as small-pane casements. The building has painted timber barge boarding and red tiled roofs. A louvred bell-cote with a finial is located on the north ridge, featuring a tiled apron and a pyramidal roof. The ridge stacks of the main block have moulded coping, and there are modern attic lights.

To the south, there is a rubble-built boundary wall.
