Description
Redholm is a 2-storey and attic L-plan house built in 1892 by Kinnear and Peddie, designed in a quasi-Tudor style with a sympathetic enlargement added in 1927. The building features random rubble construction with ashlar dressings.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, is asymmetrical with a gabled frontage. It has a simple pilastered doorway set at an angle in the re-entrant corner, topped with an arched balustrade and flanked by squat piers with ball finials. The entrance includes panelled doors. The elevation displays a variety of windows, including a large multi-light mullion and transom stair window. There are later doors and a single-storey addition on the east wing.
The north elevation, facing the garden, consists of seven unequal bays. It features four full-height projecting six-light bays with finialled gables, and mullioned and transomed windows at the ground level. The elevation has shaped and coped parapets, with string cill and eaves courses. There are narrow recessed bays with single lights at the ground level and bipartite windows above, along with a doorway in the left bay. Arched balustrades connect the gables, which also have ball finials.
The windows include plate glass glazing in casement and sash and case styles, with chamfered arrises around the openings. There are modern dormer additions and moulded brick stacks on the roof, which is covered with grey-green slates. The property is enclosed by square rubble gatepiers with pyramid caps and boulder finials, along with rubble quadrant and boundary walls featuring semi-circular coping. The terrace walls are adjacent to the house.
