Description
Abbotsford Cottage is a late 18th century, single-storey cottage originally built around 1780. It comprises three bays and adjoins a lower two-bay cottage to the right, now linked to form a single dwelling. The construction is of random rubble with some brick dressings. The front features a central door, flanked by windows with lying pane glazing, and two four-pane windows on the right-hand wing. The rear of the cottage has seen little alteration. The roof is covered with red pantiles, and brick skews and stacks are present. The cottage was built as a feu from Kinloch of Gilmerton, who encouraged improvements to the village. It forms a group with the adjoining 'West End Cottage' to the east.
