School, Luggate Burn

The building is a schoolhouse designed by William Burn in 1831, featuring a gabled single-storey attic schoolhouse and an adjoining single-storey schoolroom. It is constructed from squared, stugged, and coursed red and pink sandstone, with droved, chamfered reveals and deeply overhanging eaves.

The west elevation is asymmetrical with three bays. At the center is a narrow entrance block with a flush-panelled door, flanked on the right by a broader advanced gabled bay that has a doorway in the north re-entrant. The outer ground floor windows feature timber mullioned bipartites, while the attic has a single window that breaks the eaves in a gabled dormerhead.

The south elevation showcases a prominent advanced set-off stack that cuts through the eaves. There are single windows on both floors to the right, also with a gabled dormerhead.

The schoolroom has a rectangular plan and is attached to the southeast corner of the schoolhouse, featuring three large windows on the west side. A gabled porch projects from the south end of the schoolroom on the east side, with a doorway facing west.

The schoolhouse has plate glass sash and case windows, while the schoolroom has 6-pane windows. The roof is covered with large grey slates, and there is a variety of coped single, paired, and triple diamond stacks, along with small ball finials.
