Coastguard Cottages, 14 Melbourne Road, North Berwick

The Life Boat House, located at 15 Melbourne Road in North Berwick, is a later 19th-century two-storey terrace consisting of five houses along with a larger pavilioned house at the northwest end. The structure is built from squared and snecked rubble, featuring stugged ashlar dressings.

On the northeast elevation, there are ten paired bays with prominent gabled wide end bays, and the first floor of the gables includes bipartite windows. The southwest elevation has an advanced gabled end bay on the left and a gabled outer bay on the right, with projecting porch bays that have piend roofs. The northwest elevation is three bays wide, featuring a gabled porch at the center that is accessed from the northeast side, which includes voussoired arched sash windows. The left bay has blind windows. The southeast elevation is blank.

The windows throughout include four-pane and plate glass sash windows, with 12-pane sashes on the southwest elevation. The building has a slate roof, moulded coped ridge stacks, and straight skews.

The Lifeboat House, also known as the Rocket Apparatus House, is situated to the southeast of the cottages. It is constructed from squared snecked rubble with stugged ashlar dressings and grey slates. The entrance bay features gables with raised skews and bracketed skewputts.
