Description
1 Abbeylands on High Street in Dunbar is a late 19th century terrace of two houses, featuring two storeys and an attic. The building has five bays and a chamfered corner to the southeast. It is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble, accented with cream sandstone ashlar dressings and bands, while the rear block is in rubble. The roofs are covered with slate.
Notable architectural features include decorative doorways with semi-circular keystoned arches supported by recessed columns that have carved floral capitals, along with decorative spandrels. The panelled doors are topped with plate glass fanlights. The ground floor windows have advanced keystones, and most front windows feature roll-moulding, with a string course below the first floor. There is a full-height canted bay with a blind pierced parapet that continues with the main parapet to the first bay. The first, third, and fifth bays have curved gables, and there is a stack that is corbelled from above the ground floor on the south return elevation.
