Description
The Abbey Church of Scotland in Dunbar was designed by Thomas Hamilton from Edinburgh in 1850. It features a facade made of white Catcraig ashlar stone, with a body constructed from snecked rubble and a slate roof. The building has a symmetrical tripartite facade that includes a pointed arched doorway at the center, with three stepped lancets above it. To the left, there is a pinnacled turret topped with a weathervane, and to the right, a pinnacled buttress. The outer bays are accented by outer buttresses and blind arcading at the upper level. A string course runs around the building at the gallery level, and there is a tiled bellcote spirelet at the center of the ridge.
On the west and east faces, there are four lancets below and three above. The south elevation features a low projecting gabled block with a wallhead chimney and lancets below, along with two lancets in the aisles and a cusped circular window in the gable.
The property is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall topped with ashlar coping, and there are metal railings and lamp standards at the front.
