Description
Glenkinchie Distillery, built around 1885, features a five-storey maltings building that is attached to the south of earlier structures. It is constructed of brick with contrasting brick margins and is located in the glen of the Kinchie Burn. The south elevation has seven bays with a regular arrangement of windows. There is a door on the outer right at ground level and another door on the fourth floor that leads to a cantilevered bridge connecting to a later building to the east. A clock is positioned at the center in place of a first-floor window. The windows are mullioned and transomed, with shutters below, transoms and small panes above, and additional small-pane windows. The roof is covered with grey slates, featuring both a piend and a platform design, and has ashlar coped skews.
Inside, the building ceased functioning as maltings in the 1960s and is currently used as museum space. It includes cast-iron columns with brackets supporting timber beams of the timber floors, along with cast-iron saddles. Additionally, there is a stalk built around 1895, which is a circular section terracotta brick structure with black bands and a neck, located to the east of the maltings.
