Description
Fountainhead is a late 19th-century pumphouse built over an underground reservoir. It is constructed of squared and snecked, stugged grey ashlar. A door is located in each gable end, with a semi-circular, louvred opening above. A brick porch has been added to the south side. Four narrow slit openings are set into each side elevation. The roof is covered with red pantiles, and the gables have ashlar coped skews and die and ball finials. The building occupies a site with earlier historical significance, as noted by Forrest. It appears on the Ordnance Survey map of Haddingtonshire from 1892 and is also depicted on W. Forrest’s Map of Haddingtonshire from 1799.
