Description
St Baldred's Cottage in Tyninghame is a 2-storey L-plan cottage ornee built in 1890. The cottage features a first floor that breaks the eaves and has a lower 2-storey rear projection. It is constructed of red brick and has lancet windows.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has three irregular bays, with the outer left bay being gabled and advanced. At the center, there is a gabled porch set in the re-entrant angle, adorned with decorative timber barge-boarding, a Kingpost, herringbone boarding, and columns and a lintel made from gnarled tree trunks. The entrance features a panelled door with a three-pane fanlight above it. To the outer right, there are bipartite windows at the ground level and in the gabled dormer head above, which also has decorative barge boarding and a Kingpost. The advanced left bay has a tripartite window at the ground level and a bipartite window in the gable head above, with decorative barge boarding as the dormer head.
The north elevation includes a piend-roofed single-storey projection that is off-centre to the right, featuring one lancet window on each gable. The lancet windows have a diamond-pane glazing pattern, while the rear rectangular sash and case windows have 4-pane and 6-pane configurations. The cottage has timber eaves brackets and decorative barge boarding with kingposts at all gable heads. There are brick gable end stacks with moulded coping and original clay cans. The roof is slate with clay ridge tiles, and there are skylights at the rear.
