Vine Cottage, Main Road, Dirleton

Vine Cottage is a picturesque Gothick house from the earlier to mid-19th century, standing two stories tall with three bays and a single-storey extension to the north. The exterior is constructed from squared snecked rubble with random rubble sections, featuring stugged ashlar dressings and chamfered arrises around the openings.

On the west elevation, there is a gabled porch at the center, topped with a finial, which has a window to the west and a panelled door to the north. Flanking the porch are timber mullioned bipartite windows at the ground level and stone mullioned windows on the first floor. The first-floor dormer windows break the eaves, with the central dormer being the most ornate, showcasing Y-tracery. The single-storey bay to the north also features a timber mullioned bipartite window.

The east elevation mirrors the west but includes a flat-roofed modern extension to the left. The center window on the first floor is blind.

On the north gable, there is a hoodmoulded stone mullioned bipartite window at the ground level, leading to a single-storey advanced bay with a blind pointed slit above. The sash and case windows have plate glass glazing, while the casements feature leaded diamond glazing. The roofs are slated, with the main gables having gablet skews and consoled skewputts. Octagonal stacks are present, moulded at the base and caps, and paired on the main gableheads.
