Description

The dovecots at Fountainhall date back to the earlier 17th century, with a mirrored partner built in the 18th century. They are constructed from cream sandstone rubble and are currently in poor condition. The original dovecot to the east once contained 500 nesting boxes and features crowstepped sides with ashlar coping on the taller south wall. However, it is now roofless and missing its low wall and nesting boxes. The later partner is in a more ruinous state. A pantiled pitch roof connects the two dovecots, functioning as a cartshed supported by a timber column.
