Description

These cottages at Fountainhall likely date from the early to mid 18th century, though they may be older. Originally, there were probably four separate cottages, but they have now been combined into one. The building is constructed from rubble sandstone with harl pointing and features droved ashlar dressings, while the window surrounds are rendered in cement. The remaining door is off-centre and is flanked by windows, some of which were created from former doorways that have been blocked. The glazing patterns are from a later period. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with pantiles, featuring ashlar coped skews with beak skewputts. At the eastern end, there is one original chimney stack, along with two brick ridge stacks.
