Description

Bermaline Maltings, located on Whittinghame Drive in Haddington, was built in 1898 and is a late Victorian industrial building of impressive size and profile. It features a six-bay, three-storey structure with an attic, and a later addition of a fourth floor to the east of a two-bay central kiln pavilion, which has a tall French roof. The west side has a four-storey, two-bay section with windows in slightly advanced gabletted features. The central pavilion has shallow rectangular oriel windows on the upper two floors, as well as on the second, fourth, and sixth bays of the eastern section. The west elevation has a double gable design, while the east elevation is simpler with three bays. The building is constructed of red bull-faced coursers, except for the later additions, which are finished in red stucco. The west section and the central pavilion have slated roofs. Inside, the building has timber floors supported by iron columns.
