Description
Lilymount is a cottage villa located on Sturrock Street in Kilmarnock, built around 1880. It is a single storey and attic structure with an extended L-plan and multiple gables, featuring a canted porch at the re-entrant angle. The exterior is made of coursed sandstone rubble with polished ashlar dressings and margins, and it has projecting bay windows and overhanging eaves.
On the west elevation, there is a canted enclosed stone porch in the re-entrant angle, which has a timber door set within a squared rubble surround. Above the door is a plain gablehead with an overhanging roof, and there is a window to the right return. To the left, there is a blind wall, while to the right, an advanced gable features a three-sided canted bay window with drip sills and chamfered arrises. This bay window is topped with a cornice that has an ornate roundel and quatrefoil wrought-iron work. A window is present in the gablehead, and the corniced eaves support the overhanging roof and bargeboards.
The north elevation has a gabled end to the right, which includes a five-sided canted bay window with similar drip sills and chamfered arrises, as well as a cornice with ornate detailing above. A window is also located in the gablehead, and the corniced eaves here support the overhanging roof and bargeboards. To the left of this elevation, there is a partially concealed wall.
The rear (east) and south elevations were not visible in 2001. The west bay window features replacement two-pane timber sash and case windows, while the north elevation has four-pane sash and case windows and an attic window. A later addition includes a Velux rooflight on the principal elevation. The roof is piended with grey slate and has three bands of fish scale detailing, along with overhanging eaves, projecting verges, and plain timber barge boards. Metal ridging, flashing, and valleys are also present, along with short painted ashlar stacks topped with barley twist cans. The interior was not seen in 2001.
