Description
This is a circa 1800 coach house, possibly built on the site of an earlier structure, situated on the Auchinleck Estate. It is a two-storey, four-bay range likely constructed around the same time as the large stable block located opposite. It probably served as accommodation for the coachman and as a coach house itself, as indicated by a vehicle access point at ground floor level. The exterior is of squared and coursed red sandstone rubble, with some re-used stone and contrasting raised ashlar dressings; it was originally harled. The roof is piended and slated, with corniced ashlar stacks that have been renewed in brick on the west side.
The south-facing front elevation features a corniced tripartite doorway within the second bay from the right, with timber double doors, alongside a single door to the outer right and a strip fanlight above. A large vehicle access point is located to the left, fitted with a timber sliding door. Four windows are present at the first floor, each with lying-pane sash and case glazing. An additional window on the east gable is a later bipartite design, with a band course above it, imitating those found on the gable ends of the stables. A stone forestair leads to a door situated close under the eaves of the west gable at first floor level.
