Description
Sorn Castle is an ancient structure that has been expanded with a modern mansion. It is beautifully located on the edge of a steep bank overlooking the River Ayr. The south-west part of the castle is likely an old keep, while the north-east section is a later addition, as the floors are at different levels. This enlargement created a grand hall on the first floor. Around the same time, a parapet with decorative corbelling and bartizans was added to the building.
