Description

Kirkland Park House in Darvel is a two-storey and attic house built in the later 19th century. The front is made of cream sandstone ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed from snecked grey whinstone rubble, topped with a piended slate roof. The main block features a base course, a ground floor lintel course, and a first floor cill course, along with rustic quoins. The eaves are modillioned and have ogee guttering. Currently, the windows and doors are boarded up.

On the west elevation, the house has three bays with an off-centre Roman-Doric portico, which includes a plain frieze and a blocking course. Above the door is a single window with prominent quoins, to the left are bipartite windows with lugged architraves on both the ground and first floors, and to the right is a slightly projecting bipartite bay at ground level, with a lugged bipartite window above. There is a two-storey service wing to the left, which is irregularly fenestrated.

The south elevation also has three bays, with the left bay advanced and featuring a two-storey rounded bay with a cornice at the lintel course. There is a Roman Doric porch in the re-entrant section, complete with a coped blocking course and a monogram panel. Above the porch is a single window with a lugged architrave, along with a later flat-roofed dormer. To the right, there is a slightly advanced corniced tripartite window, with a lugged tripartite window above.

The east elevation features a canted bay to the left and lugged bipartite windows to the right, with a lower one-bay service wing slightly set back on the right side. There is also a later box dormer.

The rear elevation is obscured by later additions. Inside, the house boasts good plasterwork in the principal rooms and a wooden balustraded staircase.
