Description
68-9 High Street in Dundee is a late 18th century, four-storey and attic tenement building featuring five bays and shops on the ground floor. The structure is made of rendered rubble and has been re-clad at the first floor, topped with a grey slate roof. The main facade showcases margined windows with plate glass glazing set in timber sash and case frames, while the first floor features earlier 20th century metal-framed continuous glazing. The building has lead-covered ashlar-coped skews, brick ridge stacks, and a coped and shouldered wallhead stack located at the centre left of the front elevation.
The front elevation includes a broad pend entry situated to the centre left, flanked by modern shopfronts, and features two small piended dormer windows. The rear elevation has a pend entry to the centre right, with various windows above and a canted stairwell to the left, which is concealed at the lower floors by a two-storey, six-bay wing.
Inside, the upper floors are integrated with 70-73 High Street and Gardyne's Land, retaining some plain cornices, panelled reveals, and shutters. There is a former billiard room that boasts a high coombed ceiling and a row of decorative circular air vents, along with shallow brick vaulting.
