Description
9 Madeira Street in Dundee is a building designed by Rev G A Harris in 1870. It is an asymmetrical terrace consisting of three single-storey and attic gabled cottages, with No 9 being remodeled in 1876 to incorporate features from the end houses. The structure is built from coursed rubble with painted ashlar dressings.
The end bays are advanced, featuring a tripartite arrangement on the right with a round-arched window above, and a canted bay on the left adorned with cast-iron brattishing and a bipartite window above. The porches are set back on the sides. The center house, remodeled in 1876, has a central pedimental doorpiece and flanking canted bays with cast-iron brattishing. Above, there are round-arched twin lights with incised Celtic designs in the tympana.
The gables of Nos 7 and 9 are platformed and feature ornate bargeboards. No 7 has a gabled bargeboarded dormer, No 9 has a small round-arched dormer, and No 11 has a segmental-headed dormer. The building includes corniced ridge and wallhead stacks and has slate roofs. The windows are sash and case with a 2-pane glazing pattern. There are low boundary walls and modern railings surrounding the property.
