Old St Paul's And St David's Church, City Churches, Nethergate, Dundee

Old St Paul's and St David's Church, designed by William Burn in 1841-1842 and completed by David Bryce in 1847, is located on the site of the transepts of the Parish Church, which later became known as South and Cross Churches. This church is built in a decorated Gothic style using ashlar stone and is situated between St Mary's and Steeple Churches. It features stained glass windows with intersecting squares and hexagons, and has a slate roof.

The south elevation includes a gabled transept with a large Y- and curvilinear-traceried pointed-arch window, inspired by the west window of the tower. It has angle buttresses topped with pinnacles and a crocketted gable adorned with a cross finial. The east and west return elevations display large similarly traceried windows and a quatrefoil-pierced parapet. To the west, there are two buttressed bays set back from the transept, featuring large traceried windows and a blind quatrefoil parapet. Below two of the windows are basket-arch doorways, one leading to the South Church and the other to a through pend.

The north elevation mirrors the south but has an un-buttressed gable and undecorated parapets.

Inside, there are some partitions and a mezzanine added at the south end. The church boasts impressive timber and plaster rib vaulting that imitates stone, springing from ashlar pilaster piers. The interior also features 20th-century stained glass and a concealed plaster-panelled ceiling in adjoining rooms, which were formerly part of a gallery.
