Description

2 Constitution Terrace in Dundee is a semi-detached villa built in 1851 by James MacLaren, showcasing a 2-storey neo-Jacobean style. The south elevation features a symmetrical six-bay design, with the end bays having advanced curvilinear gables and canted bay windows on the ground floor, which were later raised to the first floor, with one bay updated in 1873. Ornamental piers and bipartite windows are found in the re-entrant angles, while the center has 2-light hood-moulded windows. Above, there are single windows with curvilinear dormer heads, though only one finial remains.

The west elevation, facing Constitution Road, has a four-bay layout with hood-moulded windows on the ground floor and dormer-headed windows on the first floor. The second bay is slightly advanced and features round-headed triplet windows at the ground floor and bipartite windows on the first floor, along with a single-storey extension to the fourth bay. The east elevation is similar in design.

The villa is topped with slate roofs and has octagonal shafted ridge stacks, with a total of eight flues, although the flue for No 4 has been rebuilt. All windows are chamfered and are sash and case, except for the modern glazing found on the ground floor of No 4. The property is enclosed by a low boundary wall and features octagonal cast-iron gatepiers with ogee caps, one of which carries a gas light.
