Description
4 Union Terrace in Dundee is a villa designed by David MacKenzie, built between 1851 and 1857. This two-storey, three-bay building features coursed rubble with painted ashlar details.
On the south elevation, there is a central, curved tripartite doorpiece. The left bay is slightly advanced and has a tripartite design with a cornice and a pediment. The right bay also has a projecting corniced tripartite. The first floor has single architraved lights, and the building is topped with a main cornice and blocking course.
The roof is piended and covered with slate, and there are corniced stacks at the gable ends. The windows are sash and case, featuring a four-pane glazing pattern.
Inside, the villa retains much of its original character, including plaster ceilings and fireplaces. The boundary walls are built of rubble, low at the front with square ashlar gatepiers, and higher at the rear.
