Description
This is a circa 1839 road bridge constructed of rubble whinstone and sandstone, with some red brick facing. It features three segmental arches, cutwaters – partially brick at the western end – and a removed parapet. The bridge forms part of a group of buildings relating to the Balmossie Mill and Panmure Bleachfield, including cottages, a stable block, and a house or tenement. The Panmure bleachfield was established in 1839 by Daniel Drimmie of Aberdeen, evolving from an earlier bleachfield previously held by the Wemys family. The bleachfield ceased operation in 1932. Supporting documentation includes a dissertation by Enid Gauldie, a publication by Alexander J Warden, and Ordnance Survey maps from 1857-58 and 1901.
