2 Somerville Place, Dundee

1 Somerville Place in Dundee is a single-storey semi-detached villa built in 1830 by James Black, forming part of a Regency style terrace. The building is harled and whitewashed with ashlar margins. The facade was originally symmetrical, featuring twin centre tripartite windows, with entrances set back beneath the eaves and outer canted bays. There is ornate cast-iron lattice work between the canted bays. To the left, there is a large segmental-arched tripartite window set back, topped with a catslide roof, while a canted bay was added to the right around 1880.

The villa has piended slate roofs with overhanging eaves, two dormers—one Victorian and one modern—and ashlar stacks that are square at the wallheads. The windows are sash and case, featuring a later two-pane glazing pattern.

The property is enclosed by rubble-built boundary walls, which are low at the front with later wrought-iron railings, and higher on the sides and rear for privacy from the Dundee and Newtyle Railway.
