Kinharvie

The Chapel at Kinharvie is a substantial shooting lodge built around 1850, which incorporates an early 19th century three-bay house. It stands two storeys high with a raised basement and features a private chapel in the southeast re-entrant angle, resulting in an asymmetrical gabled appearance.

The original house is constructed of painted rubble with rusticated quoins, while the later additions are made of squared white granite with contrasting red ashlar dressings. On the south elevation, the original house has three bays, with the outer bays being broader and featuring single windows. Steps lead down to a round-headed central door with sidelights, all beneath a canopied gabled porch. The first floor, which is an addition, has gabled bays with bipartite windows that have lugged dressings.

The chapel's east wall is curved and recessed on the left, with a wing behind it. A two-bay right wing is also recessed and features gables, along with a tall narrow cross window that lights the stair. Throughout the building, there are single and mullioned windows, some of which are canted and corbelled to square, with gables and gabled wall-head dormers. Some gables are barge-boarded, and there are bracketted eaves. Some chimney stacks have been rebuilt in brick, and the roofs are slated.

The chapel itself is also raised on a basement and features geometric-traceried windows. A larger south-facing window rises above the eaves, adorned with decorative barge boards on the gable. Other windows flank a central blind opening on the east wall, which has columned jambs and a gabled head.

Inside the chapel, the timbered roof is supported at the east end by corbelled engaged columns with foliated capitals resting on foliated corbels. The sanctuary windows are made of leaded glass.
