Description
Tongland Abbey consists of fragmentary remains believed to date back to the 12th century. The existing structure includes the western gable, which is complete to the wallhead and features a square stone belfry, along with parts of the northern and southern side walls. These walls have been significantly altered in post-Reformation times to create the old Parish Church. Notably, there is a richly moulded round-headed doorway on the northern wall, which has been considerably restored and features dog-tooth moulding, thought to be a 17th century imitation of medieval craftsmanship.
