Description
Kirkconnel is a late 18th century to early 19th century farmhouse featuring a two-storey design with a U-plan steading. The farmhouse has a rectangular, symmetrical three-bay main block with a central gabled porch and a gabled M-roofed wing at the rear. It includes a boulder basecourse and harled walling with raised painted margins. The windows are single light, sash and case style with 4-pane glazing. Notably, above the left ground window is a small heraldic panel displaying the initials and arms of William Gordon of Kirkconnel.
The west side has a modern French door to the left, with two 12-pane sashes on the first floor. The rear elevation features a single-storey lean-to. The building is topped with sandstone ridge and skews, slate roofs, and coped end stacks. The interior layout has been altered at the rear in modern times, although some fielded panel shutters remain in the south block.
The steading consists of two main ranges, forming an L-plan with a single storey and attic to the north and east of a square farmyard, and a south range with single-storey byres and a central two-storey mill, which has been gutted. All the steadings are constructed of painted rubble and have well-graded slate roofs.
