Description

High Bridge of Tarff, built in 1832, is a stone bridge that spans the Tarff Water, located upstream from the Old Bridge of Tarff at Valleyfield village. It features a single elliptical arch with an approximate span of 40 feet and a carriageway width of 33 feet. The bridge is constructed mainly of ashlar masonry made from red sandstone, while the spandrels and abutments are made of squared coursed rubble. It has wide, finely dressed voussoirs with a raised arch-ring and a band course at the base of the parapet, which has a deep cornice. The parapet itself is made of ashlar and includes coping.
