Description
Auchenhessnane Farmhouse and its east steading wing were built around 1830. The farmhouse is a two-storey structure with three bays, while the east wing is a low single-storey addition. The south elevation of the house is constructed from cherry-caulked whinstone blocks, accented with red ashlar dressings. It features a central doorcase with Roman Doric columns, which is painted, and includes a recessed panelled door topped by a decorative fanlight. The windows are margined and have 12-pane sashes. The building has a base course, an eaves course, and a cornice. There are coped end stacks and red ashlar battered square flues, with a piended slate roof. The east wing is primarily made of cherry-caulked whinstone with ashlar dressings, consisting of four irregular bays that connect to a taller outer gable. There is a forestair on the east wall of the gable leading to a gabled loft opening.
