Description
Killiewarren is a rectangular-plan, altered three-storey farmhouse likely built in the early 18th century, with earlier fabric incorporated at the ground level. It features a full-depth, single-storey and attic, two-bay west wing, probably constructed by Charles Howitt around 1860. To the rear (north) is a long, low steading range from circa 1820, which includes a waterwheel and has been altered, possibly by Howitt, with a porch added in the re-entrant angle. The building is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, and the house is whitewashed with all roofs slated.
On the original house's south elevation, there are three ground floor windows, with the right window being a modern bipartite design. An inner window was formed from a 19th-century door opening. Above, there are two wide, regular bays. The original north-facing doorway is segmental-arched and roll-moulded, located behind the porch, with a single small window above it. The sash windows feature four-pane glazing in chamfered reveals, and there are 19th-century skews and end stacks.
The wing includes a 1617 panel above a round-headed doorway, with a gabled dormer head over the remaining bay, featuring bull-faced dressings. The steading range is built of whin rubble, with original dressings in red ashlar and alterations in pink ashlar. It has a cast-iron and timber overshot wheel and gearing on the west wall, although the interior machinery has been removed. The lade is carried over two red ashlar supporting piers, with square-headed openings and a banked loft door in the north gable.
