Description
Boatford Bridge in Langholm is a pedestrian suspension bridge built in 1871 by Messrs Herneulewiczs and Co from London. The original bridge collapsed on its opening day, and the current steel suspension bridge was constructed in the same year, using the original pylon-supporting piers. The deck timbers were replaced, and the walkway was asphalted in 1985.
The piers are made of bull-faced grey and red ashlar with pointed cutwaters. The superstructure features plain open-worked pylons with finials, a ramped walkway supported by steel rods, and simple open-worked parapets.
