Description
168-170 Irish Street in Dumfries is a building dating from around 1800. It has three storeys and features nine bays, with three bays closest to the north. The adjacent building at No. 172 is from the early 19th century and has a single bay with a piended narrow south end that connects to Greyfriars Street. The ground floor of the building contains shops, which are covered by a continuous fascia. The structure is built from rubble and painted with contrasting ashlar margins. It has sash windows throughout; No. 172 has a four-pane glazing pattern, while the other windows have a twelve-pane glazing pattern, with two blind bays. The first floor features a tripartite window in the south end wall with blind outer lights. Additional architectural details include an eaves and lintel band, a cornice, end stacks, and a slate roof.
