Description

The Post Office located at 17 Main Street in Glenluce is an early 19th-century, two-storey, three-bay house that features shops on the ground floor and is part of a terrace. The building is rendered and has painted architraved margins with bracketed cills on the first floor, as well as a painted base course.

On the south elevation facing Main Street, there is a panelled door with a plate glass fanlight at the center. To the right of the door, there are two shop windows, and a corniced fascia runs over the center and right bays, with pilasters at each end flanking the central door on the left and the outer window on the right. The left bay contains a shop window with an architraved margin that extends to the ground. The first floor has regular fenestration.

The west elevation is adjoined to a lower bay and features a pend and a gabled-dormer-headed window. The east elevation is connected to the higher building at 19 Main Street, which houses the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The ground floor shop windows have fixed plate glass glazing, including a small "GR" postbox in the window to the left, while the first floor has modern glazing. The building has red sandstone coped skews and roll skewputts. The gablehead stacks are rendered, broad on the west side and tall, corniced, and shouldered on the east side to match the adjoining gablehead stack of 19 Main Street. The roof is covered with grey slates and has red sandstone ridging, along with two rooflights above the outer bays.
