Description
The Lamb Monument, dating to around 1855, is an obelisk-type monument erected in memory of the Reverend John Lamb. It is constructed from painted ashlar and stands on a square pedestal with a stepped plinth. A rosette-studded band course is visible on the west face of the pedestal, which is inscribed with a dedication from the Free Church congregation of Kirkmaiden, commemorating the Reverend Lamb's death in 1855. The monument is set upon a square base of coursed granite and is topped with decorative cast-iron spearhead cresting that encircles the obelisk. The monument is located in front of the former Free Church, which has been altered for use as a church hall. Further information is available in W Ewing's ANNALS OF THE FREE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND (1914) and J A Lamb's THE FASTI OF THE UNITED FREE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND (1956).
