Description
The railway embankment at Priestcrown Wood in Durisdeer was part of the Closeburn-New Cumnock line, engineered by John Miller and opened on October 28, 1850. This embankment is constructed of stugged red ashlar with bull-faced coping slabs. The main wall rises from the outer ends and is supported by closely spaced, shallow-battered tall plain buttresses. These buttresses are stepped below the main coping, while lower, steeply-battered buttressing fills most of the intermediate spaces.
